But HEY Speaking of degrees; I am now on a degree course. BA(Hons)Narrative & Sequential Illustration with Oxford Brookes. I'm actually halfway through the first year now, but hey, now I have a surplus of work to post, right? Right.

We'll start with this:

This poster was my submission for a mundane object project. I sort of reverse engineered the hole thing by working on everything but leaving the actual object until last. I wouldn't suggest working like this, but if you're like me and once you have an idea you like so much it wont shift, no matter how hard you try, it can be pulled off.
Our Inspiration was to be drawn from posters created to inform or advise, I chose kitsch 50's - 60's adverts and gave them a playful/menacing twist, needless to say others worked on the same sorts of posters, it is in after all.

More to come, soon!Palindrome Catastrophehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01821898370395089373noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-648160747506038825.post-53657292369959098922011-06-14T18:54:00.000-07:002011-06-14T18:54:18.950-07:00Escape from MinecraftSo, for the past few months I've been in the addicting world of Minecraft, that stuff is crazy. A lot's happened, but all on paper, and I'd rather not show you all that just yet.
One thing: HAIRCUT, so My hair is short again and this, (for some reason) has given me an urge to get my blog and my DeviantArt Account up to date! Crazy, huh?
A few weeks back I said I was starting a course cor comic book art, but sadly it was cancelled (due to lack of interest?!), but I am happy to announce I will be attending a day course in a few weeks time, Super fun times ahead!

This is one of the first images I ever created on illustrator, and one of my favourites, despite the little niggly rough bits. This was done during my old old job which was incredibly simple and as you can see I had enough time to draw during work hours, other than that it was solitaire or death by boredom.

Back to work for me!Palindrome Catastrophehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01821898370395089373noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-648160747506038825.post-50188261397126706342010-10-28T12:06:00.000-07:002010-10-28T12:06:42.132-07:00THE BEST NIGHTMARESo it has been a long-ish time. But I have been working super hard on paper you guys, honest! So over the next few days I will be uploading some old work of mine starting with this:

This was done using adobe illustrator for a summer assignment for college, which was quite simply: draw four images showing what we did over the summer. This one is my favourite for many reasons but the main one being Moustaches = Great.

(I can't really grow one in twenty seconds... more like ten.)Palindrome Catastrophehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01821898370395089373noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-648160747506038825.post-70521803836386063922010-10-04T05:23:00.000-07:002010-10-04T05:25:12.172-07:00Post #1008 - Mental DroughtSo, it's been about three weeks of nothing, and that simply won't do! Reason being my scanner is being a jerk, also; the title of the post isn't strictly true, it's not the thought process that's the problem, it's getting it onto paper, but that will all be over soon!
After a trip to the art shop I discovered my local University has a course for comic book art, which I had to jump straight on to it! It will start next Monday and I have permission from work to only work half days on a Monday, which gives me a good hour to get there. It was £98 for a 10 week course, which is not bad (although it seems to be free for students.).

I really do hope this will pull my problems around and motivate me into putting all my ideas down for you all to see! I have so much to show you all and I really hope you'll enjoy it! I am currently juggling two stories at the moment, but I think I have that under control, one about the afterlife and another about a vagabond! And that's all you'll get out of me for now!

No real images to show this time round, so I feel perhaps a song for you all:

RECENTLY READ: Hellboy- The chained coffin & other stories - Mike Mignola

I would love to say Hellboy is one of my all time favourites, but I really can't live up to that, not with my meager collection of two books to my name. Firstly; the style is something else. The negative space and how perfectly suggestive the shapes are, you never struggle to figure it out. The flow is just right, and the motion is easily understood. As for the story: very simple at times. He goes out to find (and probably destroy) A to protect B (Usually a person or collection of people) but this isn't constant, and damned if it isn't cool seeing a stocky red demon shoot the most famous witch in Russia's eye out. The folklore the stories are based around are well researched and whatever can't be found the writer has improvised, quite well, too.

CURRENTLY READING: Transmopolitan - Warren Ellis

Only thirty-or so pages in, and have tried researching it as little as possible. Verdict so far is that it looks as if it's going to turn out for the best. By that I mean the main character's captivating enough and the story so far has not broken into any subplots about revenge etc. in sight. The Main character one Spider Jerusalem (Above) Has gone through a drastic change already, physically and seemingly mentally.
As a journalist I have hopes for a refreshingly reusable plot device, at least for the first few books, that is. It would get pretty stale if he did it again and again I can imagine, much like Scooby Doo did. BUT YES, HIGH HOPES ALL AROUND for this grittily satirical view of the denizens of the future!

WANT TO READ: The Goon - Eric Powell

Again, I haven't researched anything about this comic, apart from scoping the cover art and watching the teaser for the upcoming film (which I only knew about after looking for it online.). As far as I can tell, we're looking at a 20's-30's setting with robots, zombies, sea monsters... that sort of thing. The main character is a big lug aptly called "The Goon". He has a partner called Franky and they tend to bring the hurt on the baddies. There is nothing to dislike from that description as far as I'm concerned. Everything I have seen style-wise is very nice and haven't really seen anything hope-crippling as of yet. Well... one thing: POSTAGE.
Being a British citizen I have a tad bit of trouble when it comes to shipping things from America, which seems to be one of three options:
1) - Buy from Amazon and wait up to four weeks for arrival, also it wont tell me what's in stock and what isn't.
2) - Buy from Play.com and pay less, but wait two months for one book, two weeks for another and two days for the third. I don't understand how they could not have officially released the second in the series (On Play.com) but they have the first and the third? In fact they have all ten that I know of, except for the second one, which is released in November?? Sorry, but that's nuts.
3) - Buy it form America, which means cheaper books but very expensive shipping and import tax dealies, also, an indeterminable amount of time.

So there you go. Stuff.

Also, I feel I'm not contributing the (currently very small) community I'm in. Any tips, advice, pointers, or involvement would be grand!

Thanks all!

EDIT: Transmopolitan was DC and VERTIGO, sorry folks.Palindrome Catastrophehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01821898370395089373noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-648160747506038825.post-24509632593494743442010-09-11T17:22:00.000-07:002010-11-22T02:08:19.951-08:00Post #0118 999, 881 999, 119 725... 3- Job stuff

SO, I have been absent for a number of reasons, the first one being the fact I have TWO jobs now, and I'm working seven days a week.
Since I moved to bath in July I have been working for a temping agency called RANDSTAD. It's most certainly been... Interesting. So I thought I'd make a routine of showing you (through drawings) the trials and tribulations of being a temp.

My fist job with the agency was with an online website called "Love Honey", which is an Adult Toy website. I was in the warehouse with all the stock on display... Now, fist of all this seemed rather funny and looked like it could have been a lot of fun. It wasn't. It was essentially supermarket sweep stamina training, but perhaps what I didn't like was the company, and how they got points across. Anyway, the point is it was exciting for the first hour, but the novelty got dull, quick.

How I got through the day:
- First real job, and I knew it wouldn't be for long
- The stock did keep me amused
- The radio was okay about 20% of the time

My Major Problems:
- All day on my feet
- Negative feelings from colleagues
- repetitive and endless supply of orders

Duration: About a week

So, that's it for the first installment, more to come next week.
(Also to come: September musings, perhaps some blog game things, etc.)Palindrome Catastrophehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01821898370395089373noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-648160747506038825.post-36656142485441750742010-09-02T18:31:00.000-07:002010-09-02T18:31:11.533-07:00Post #2001 - Hello, Dave. So, yeah. I've been pretty darn busy. Firstly I spent some time down in my home town but not for long (Sorting out rent things, catching up with friends.) And since then I have been spending time with Cookie.B, watching a lot of new shows, as we hadn't seen each other in a week, which seems to be my limit.
I missed her so much that I promised to do a quick doodle of her, which much too long, but that is because she likes leaning over my shoulder, making squeaking noises. Very sweet, but distracting.

Here she is! I find the hardest thing to draw is her hair, but I've been doing it like this since I met her. She's such a funny girl, I don't think people would believe the insane things she does. I'm not so sure about this one, But it was only quick and Cookie likes it, so that's good.

Whilst I am here I will tell you a bit about my week. We have spent time watching some pretty amazing films, such as I know who killed me and Earth Girls are Easy. They were both shocking in very different ways. I know who killed me THOUGHT it was being clever but it ended up overdoing it so much, and with such a crappy twist it was laughable, and Lindsay Lohan is the perfectly cast for this film, awful and sleazy.

Now, Earth Girls are Easy is... indescribable. The cast were A Listers at the time, except Jim Carey, who was just starting his career. But Jeff Goldblum as the blue alien?! and not without mentioning the female lead was Gena Davis. I just hope they knew this film was going to be... well, it switches between a terribly recorded musical and a badly plotted romance with such an abrupt conclusion. I mean it was funny, but not the bits they planned to be. Films like this make my day, but my grasp on humanity fades more and more I watch them.

I SUGGEST YOU SEE THESE FILMS.

One last thing I wanted to show you was my second in the D&D characters I have created. Now technically I did this one first but I had just finished my druid by the time I decided to do the post, and I have been frankly letting this stuff pile up behind me. So here she is:

This is Cookie Buttons character, who currently has no name. But what I can tell you is that she is a halfling ranger, who dual weilds little axes and a crossbow. She has wonderlust and a taste for adventure, she is (as all halflings are) small (about 3-4 feet tall), enthusiastic, but a little quiet. I am not sure what her ultimate goal is, but neither does she.
(No picture today because I really should be packing.)Palindrome Catastrophehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01821898370395089373noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-648160747506038825.post-55240246806281498242010-08-27T15:16:00.000-07:002010-08-27T15:16:50.184-07:00Post #012- Druids & DragonsSo, after my four hour drawing explosion I have finally finished a picture, more specifically my character for D&D (Dungeons & Dragons), which is a game I am still learning the rules of, considering I have nobody to teach me I'm teaching myself.
I have assembled a team to play, but it seems as though I am going to have to be Dungeon Master, which is a bummer, because that meant I don't really get to adventure with my guy. Although I think I have found a way to get around that problem. He will be the Green ranger to the rest of my team (Room mates and Cookie.B). To anyone who never watched the original series of power rangers the Green ranger was a sort of Deus ex machina they used to spice the ol' rinse and repeat plot line. But we shall see how that goes, and I feel I can trust myself not to sway the story too much with my guy.

THIS IS THE FELLA:

He's a half elf druid named Ivan, He likes a smoke on his pipe and sitting in trees, he hates goblins. with a passion.I am quite proud of him, and I should be considering how long he took me, but that may just be my drawing process. Next post I will show you the character I made last time. And I think I will keep you up to date with them as I'm doing the rest.

So long!Palindrome Catastrophehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01821898370395089373noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-648160747506038825.post-33436349465771765032010-08-26T15:48:00.000-07:002010-08-26T15:48:47.488-07:00Post #001: One Upon A BeginningSo, This is my brand spanking new blog, by orders of The Cookie Button, whom you all probably know. As the story goes she was hungry for as many followers as possible and Rused a clever ruse and told me it would be a great way to maximise a following of sorts, and to encourage me to further my hobby in illustration. As the same with everyone who recognises their kinship with the art I would love to illustrate professionally someday.
I will be Showing you new pictures as they come up and revealing to you all the development by digging into my oldest files from years ago and comparing them with my latest endeavours. And I promise to try some Socialising time and again, too (Not that I'm any good at it.)
